The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), administered by the province, was created to expedite the immigration process for qualified employees, entrepreneurs, farmers, and students who can contribute to the province’s (Saskatchewan) economy. There are four main SINP categories that newcomers can apply for PR under:
- International Skilled Worker: This category is for international skilled workers who wish to work and reside in Saskatchewan.
- Worker with Saskatchewan Work Experience: This category is for international employees with a valid work permit for at least six months, to work in Saskatchewan.
- Entrepreneur: For foreign graduates of a Saskatchewan post-secondary school who wish to establish a business in the province.
- Farm Owner and Operator: This category is for experienced farmers interested in owning and operating a farm in Saskatchewan.
Changes to Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Program due to COVID-19
- Applicants whose working status has changed while on a temporary work permit must continue to satisfy the minimum requirements for the SINP category for which they applied. SINP is extending candidates’ time to get another job offer or to restart full-time employment with their original company.
- Applicants who are laid off or fired must obtain another full-time job offer within four months.
- Nominees who are no longer eligible for the job offer connected with their SINP application will have up to four months to find alternative eligible employment.
- All SINP candidates are eligible for a six-month nomination extension. This gives them extra time to seek permanent residence.
- Current applicants and nominees will get a conditional nomination if the conditions of their job offer linked to their SINP application have altered as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic and they are unable to satisfy the minimal requirements. Once the requirements are fulfilled again within four months, the restrictions will be lifted.
- Applicants should inform SINP promptly if they are laid off or dismissed from their employment. Withholding information will be considered misrepresentation by SINP.
- Applicants who are currently employed in the province but have had their full-time hours cut will be allowed to continue working, for their approved employer, while seeking alternative temporary employment. The nomination will be conditional upon the candidate working a minimum of 30 hours per week in single employment for an authorized company.
- Applicants who have lived and worked in Saskatchewan for at least six months and have accumulated 780 hours of work experience, whether full-time or part-time, will be eligible to apply to SINP.
- Employees who do not have an open work permit must apply for a new one with IRCC, and Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Program will issue a new work permit support letter as necessary.
- Students who have graduated from a post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan before September 1, 2020, are eligible to apply for the Saskatchewan Graduate Temporary Measure.
